“What the heck do gays want? Recognition? Justification? They can get all the recognition and justification they want from man, but it will never stand for anything before God.”

February 19, 2009 by

While at work today I received an email alert about gay marriage which led to this blog  at Knoxnews.com, the blog for the Knoxville News Sentinel.

It continues to leave me gob-smacked that people really do not understand fundamental liberty and equality for all, even in the 21st century.  One commenter asked the question about what gays wanted.  Naturally I cannot speak for ‘the gays’ (lol).  Only for myself as an out, proud, gay man.  I am not an activist.  I haven’t earned the right to be called that.  I am, however, an “”equalist”.

So… i did what i was challenged to do by the oblivious poster.  I answered for myself.  Perhaps there are others who feel as I do, but I wouldn’t presume to speak for them.  The post follows:

RESPONSE: “RE: “What the heck do gays want? Recognition? Justification? They can get all the recognition and justification they want from man, but it will never stand for anything before God. They can call themselves married all they want, and pretend that it is as good as a real marriage, but it is still a sinful lifestyle. ”

Unable to speak for ALL gays, I can speak only for myself.   What I want is for you to allow ME to rectify my relationship with my higher power for any transgressions or sins I commit.  My higher power did not appoint “you” as his marshall or enforcer.  Therefore, if I am to stand before God in Judgement for my immortal soul… what the heck do I need ‘your’ hateful cautions for?  I’ve already got tickets to the judgement… live and in person. It is, so, written.

I want to be treated with simple common courtesy and respect. I want to be treated with dignity… as I strive to treat all other people. I don’t need “your” permission nor ‘your’ approval, I need fair laws that do not tax me but fail to represent me.  I need legislation to protect me from the tyranny of the “majority”, whom, by the way, are historically, NOT always in the right.

That said, there is not now nor has ever been any gray area in equality. Period.

What can possibly be more tiresome than dogma, rhetoric, bigotry and disdain for fellow human beings? I fail to think of ANYthing. Other than the incessant spewing of doctrine by people, who by their hateful actions, clearly do not give a care for love thy Neighbor (unless they’re different than you). We don’t get to cherry-pick. Sorry.

My marriage is not going to end the world and incite Armageddon. What I, and the love of my life do, has ZERO impact on ‘your’ life.

Some have clained that gay marriage will destroy the fabric of humanity. That it will decimate society. How?

I defy anyone to show me how my gay marriage is going to somehow stop straight people from their natural desire to procreate and to marry people of the opposite sex, thereby living their lives as usual and fulfilling the directive to go forth and multiply.

That’s kinda’ like saying that my being gay is going to make Aardvarks stop eating ants or hornets to not sting again. It’s impossible. Aardvarks, and ants… birds and bees will never stop their nature. They cannot. It’s what they do. The same, I am quite certain, applies to heterosexual human beings.

I celebrate your God-Given right to believe as you CHOOSE to believe, but as for being judgemental, irrational, hysterical, rhetorical and silly. Not so much.

Just STOP IT.”
