Dear Friend of Lambda Legal,
In two weeks, the California Supreme Court will hear a very important oral argument as LGBT legal organizations including Lambda Legal, NCLR and the ACLU fight in court to protect the California Constitution and the fundamental freedom to marry. While this courageous legal team represents our interests in court, we can all play a part in making the case for equality. We need to start talking.
We know that what changes hearts and minds and builds support for equality is having personal conversations that convey what it’s like to be LGBT, and why equality — particularly marriage equality — is so important.
Today we are asking you to tell three people about equality. It’s that simple. Whether you’re LGBT or straight, just start talking. Tell three people about what it means to be LGBT, or to care about someone who is. A group of LGBT organizations have come together to offer tips and information to help you start these conversations and a place to share your stories.
And we want to talk with you: Immediately after the oral argument on March 5, we will be hosting a telephone briefing for Lambda Legal members so that you can be among the first to know what happened inside the courtroom.
Join us on March 5 at 3 pm PST (6 pm EST) for a conversation about the oral argument in the Strauss v. Horton case challenging the validity of Prop 8 in California. Jenny Pizer, Lambda Legal’s National Marriage Project Director, and our Legal Director Jon Davidson will brief you on the “what” and the “why” as they discuss the latest developments in the case. Save the date — more information will follow about how to join the call!
Lambda Legal fights for LGBT equality in the courts, and your personal conversations outside of the courtroom are just as important to protecting love, liberty and equality for all LGBT people. Let’s get talking!
